October/November 2010 CCM Newsletter

Each year, at Thanksgiving time, we present our Book of the Centuries Club. Years ago, there were clubs you joined and each month they sent you some “bestselling” book to read. The Bible has always been the best selling of all books and is one that we all should be reading on a daily basis. Since most of us have more than a few Bibles around, we came up with the idea of providing the “book of the centuries” to many people who do not own even one. In this club, you donate money you might have used to buy some “one time read” book. By doing this, you provide the Bible and other Biblical teaching material to Christians in Colombia and around Latin America that could not afford to buy one at full price or you help translate and publish excellent teaching material so that Christians can have the blessings of great Biblical material for their growth and maturity.

Our Christian Literature fund has been used for this purpose for more than three decades now. We do not give Bibles or material away as a rule. But we do subsidize the prices so that it is affordable to people who often earn far less than we do. We sell Bibles for the equivalent of one week’s wages in the areas where we are working. We also use this fund to aid in the translation, writing, and publication of Children’s Sunday School material and teaching books to be used by Christian leaders as they grow and mature in the Lord. For example, there was not a single college level text book written from a New Testament perspective available in the Spanish language. Books by different cults and other vested interests were available, but nothing else. For years now we have worked to translate and write this type of teaching material. Once the books are translated or written however, the cost of printing them often continues to block their usage both in Colombia and around Latin America.

This is where our “Book of the Centuries” club comes in. We ask each one of you to consider providing a generous love offering that will be placed in our Christian literature fund and then used exclusively to subsidize Bibles and to write, translate, publish, and distribute Biblical study material to Colombia and all through Latin America. The average preacher in Latin America has little or no access to solid works of Biblical scholarship. This leaves them open to all sorts of “winds of doctrine” that can take them to some rather bizarre conclusions at times. The best way to avoid this is to help them secure access to solid Biblical teaching through the medium of clear Biblical teaching. Help us make this type of book available to preachers and other Christian leaders throughout Latin America by joining our “Book of the Centuries” club today. Fill out the coupon that is included with this month’s newsletter and return it with your gift to the Colombian Christian Mission and we will use it to produce greater access to the “Book of the Centuries” in Colombia and throughout the entire Spanish speaking world.

Now that we’re coming up on the holiday season it’s time to start thinking about Christmas gifts. We all enjoy giving gifts to those we love, but let’s not forget this season to think about those less fortunate than ourselves. Sponsoring a child in Colombia is a great way to give the gift of a lifetime, make a difference in the life of a poor Colombian child by giving them the hope of a brighter future. This program is perfect for Sunday School classes, small groups, church Christmas programs, women’s groups, children’s church or for special family Christmas gifts. We have one gentleman that sponsors a child in each of his grandchildren’s names for a Christmas present. We also have a few families that forgo the typical gift exchange and sponsor a few students instead.you would like to sponsor the same student again this year let us know as soon as possible before we assign them to another sponsor. If you would like to become a new student sponsor, we can send you some information about our scholarship program. We have brochures and a video that explains the scholarship program in detail and shows you the school and the ministry you’ll be supporting. Join our Colegio Peniel Scholarship Progam and make a difference in the life of a poor child in Colombia this holiday season. We have a 20 minute video available that explains the Colegio Peniel Scholarship Program in full if you’re interested.
